If you’re looking to grow revenues from marketing online, you need a team of conversion marketing specialists.
But finding those specialists isn’t always easy.
- Many of the best conversion marketers don’t show up in search. At all. (You need to be inside the conversion community to even know they exist.)
- LinkedIn is hit or miss. (It’s hard to tell who’s freelance, operating under their own company name vs. an employee, not up for grabs.)
- Many don’t stay on Upwork once they’re established.
You can ask around… you can pay attention to the names dropped. But even inside the conversion marketing community, it’s difficult to keep track of specialists when you need them.
That’s why we created this master referral list.
(If you’re a conversion marketer and up for being featured here, welcome. We want to grow this list. Message us via the contact page and we’ll share the next steps.)
Let’s get to it, then, shall we?
Read on to learn more about conversion marketing. Or, click the table of contents to jump to the specialist you need.
What Is Conversion Marketing?
Conversion marketing is focused on the next most valuable action — a conversion.
According to MarketingSherpa, a conversion is:
‘“The point at which a recipient of a marketing message performs a desired action.” In other words, conversion is simply getting someone to respond to your call-to-action.’
That call-to-action might be an opt-in, sign-up, form submission, click-to-call, or purchase.
When a prospect completes one of those goals, you have a conversion.
Isn’t ALL digital marketing conversion marketing?
Not exactly. But the lines can be fuzzy.
It’s not always what a marketer does but how they do it and why.
Take SEO content writers, for example. Some are explicitly focused on lead-gen (a conversion). Others purely focus on traffic (which might not convert).
The same is true of graphic designers. One designer may create your brand identity but never apply it to the funnels where prospects convert. Another may specialize in designing the assets that drive sales.
To include a profile in this post, I looked at whether the service is explicitly focused on generating more leads and sales.
But there’s an even higher bar — and it’s not exclusive to conversion copywriters or CRO shops.
Conversion marketers use data to drive action, either by:
1) Optimizing marketing out of the gate. (Via a data-driven research process and in some cases, pre-launch user testing);
2) Analyzing data from existing pages, emails and ads to find out what’s converting, what’s not and develop hypotheses for optimization.
What Conversion Marketers Do You Need on Your Team?
Who you need depends on your business size.
Micro-businesses and solopreneurs generally need a core team of conversion marketing specialists for:
- Lead gen (most start with Facebook ads, lead gen content or cold emails)
- Conversion copy for key pages and marketing emails
- Conversion-focused design
You might also need a sales funnel strategist to piece it all together.
Later on, you might need conversion marketing specialists who can:
- Generate leads across more marketing channels
- Create conversion-focused content across the customer journey
- Measure, wrangle conversion data, test and optimize
If you have a different perspective on how these roles break down/who should be included, please reach out. (Taxonomies are my jam.)
Next up: the seven conversion marketing specialists you can add to your team.
1. Conversion-Focused Market Researchers
First — always, always first — is research. Before we can optimize anything for conversions, we must know the customer.
Conversion-focused research surfaces what customers believe, doubt, fear, desire.
It helps us understand what triggers action and what creates friction in the customer’s path to your conversion goal.
Good customer research takes time. Deep time. (To learn more, check out our post on voice-of-customer research.)
If you hire a conversion copywriter, you’ll get conversion research.
But sometimes…
- Your copywriter has a waitlist and you want to get research started in the meantime.
- You’re developing a product and don’t yet need copywriting, but you do need audience insight.
These are both great reasons to hire a conversion-focused researcher.
Hannah Shamji, Customer Researcher for SaaS and Ecommerce
Hannah is well known in conversion marketing circles as a research pro.

Hannah specializes in SaaS and e-commerce and her services include custom interviews and surveys, interview training and workshops and more.
She has a psychology background and trained as a counselor, which means Hannah has great insight into human behavior, including how and why people take action.
Hannah has been featured on The Copywriter Club and led research for Copyhackers agency.

2. Ad Content Creators & Campaign Managers
You need leads and you’re willing to pay for them. Who do you hire?
- Ad content creators who know what converts. On different platforms. Across stages of the customer journey.
- Campaign specialists who can strategize, target ideal audiences and monitor ROI, so, your hard-earned ad budget doesn’t only line the coffers at Facebook and Google.
These are the specialists I know to be masters of their ad craft and science.
Sarah Sal, Hypercaffeinated Facebook Advertising
Sarah’s niche is one of the most defined.
When you think of Sarah, you think of conversion strategy and copy for Facebook ads.
(Ok, you also think of super dry jokes and vegan ‘this is what I ate’ posts — but only if you follow her on social.)
Before I intro Sarah, let’s talk about Facebook ads for a moment. They’re a conversion challenge because…
- It’s a crowded, competitive ad space that changes fast
- Social ads target audiences with low to zero purchase intent
- You need to master multiple ad formats and placements
- Facebook ad copy plays a much bigger role than in any other PPC ads
- You’re often writing multiple ads for one funnel, for different stages of awareness (which you know because you’re using the Facebook pixel to track what they’ve already seen)
To do all that, you need a Facebook Ads specialist.
Here’s Sarah:
“Sarah Sal manages Facebook ad campaigns and writes ad copy for niches where content is queen. Aka businesses that invest heavily in content.
She has run ads for companies like Stratgyzers, a shark tank company, and ClickFunnels and has been hired by companies like AdEspresso, and Hootsuite.
Some of Sarah’s success stories have been featured on Agorapulse, AdEspresso, AdWeek, Blitzmetrics, Copyhackers, Jon Loomer’s private membership and she presented a webinar for Perry Marshall’s 80/20 Facebook ads course.”

3. Conversion-Focused Content Marketers
The taxonomies… are challenging.
What’s the difference between a conversion copywriter who also writes content and a content marketer?
The lines can blur but content marketing is usually a step removed from the sale.
When it’s not, it exists just to screw with neat categories.
Webinar copy, for example, is the love child of sales copy and content marketing. (The hook up went something like this: “With our powers combined, we could both educate and sell!” And the internet was never the same.)
But in general, the goals of content are to:
- Capture leads (direct conversions)
- Nurture sales or retention (indirectly contributing to conversions)
Cool? Good. But to complicate matters further…
Not all content writers optimize for SEO. And some content should never be found in search.
But if wrangling Google is your game, you need a conversion marketer who’s not only damn good at SEO but also creates content that earns opt-ins.
Peruse the wondrous and varied skills featured here.
Chima Mmeje, Zenith Copy, SEO Content for SaaS & Tech Brands
“Chima writes engaging content for SaaS and tech brands that want more leads and sales.
If you’ve struggled with SEO, you know there’s quite a lot involved. Chima can help you:

- Identify profitable search phrases with low competition.
- Find quick wins to get the most bang for your investment.
- Build a topic cluster to rank for your money keywords.
- Create an SEO content calendar to streamline your content creation and ensure you never run out of fresh content.
- Write SEO content optimized for your target audience and search engines.
- Update existing content that won’t budge from page 2 or 3 to Google Page 1.
Chima has worked with brands like EngageBay and Remitly to help them improve their search ranking for branded and top of the funnel keywords.”
Personal Passions:
“I’ve always loved technology. It seems so complex when looking in on the outside, but I enjoy demystifying it in such a way that ordinary people who don’t understand tech-speak can see the value.
For nonprofits, I believe in giving back to balance my footprint on the earth. I’m passionate about doing my bit to help nonprofits reach the right audience and spread their message.”

Sarah MacKinnon Writes, Content Strategy & Copywriting for B2B
Sarah and I know each other from Copyhackers circles. Back when coffee in-person was a thing, we did that in Toronto.
Check her out:
“Working with +30 B2B companies over the last 9 years, Sarah has made it her business to learn everything she can about the B2B sales cycle.
And what Sarah learned is that traditional purchase journey frameworks (like awareness-consideration purchase) mislead us to think that buying is a linear progression. This leaves many commercial organizations in the dark on how buying actually happens (and what to do when it ISN’T happening).
That’s where Sarah comes in.
Sarah has a unique customer research-based approach that helps B2B start-ups and scale-ups elicit the insights to develop messaging and content that ACTUALLY helps reduce buying friction, shorten the sales cycle and improve their win rate.
What does that look like?
- Website content that educates buyers about problems they didn’t even know they had. And are now 100% bought into solving.
- Powerful case studies that take a buying group from “We’re not sure” to “We’re all in”.
- Conversion-focused webinars that inspire a prospect to hit “buy” on a 20K online purchase.
Over the past few years, Sarah has impacted the inbound pipeline of many growth-oriented B2B companies:
Working in collaboration with her clients’, she has:
- Influenced 200K in revenue for a polar expedition company by developing a B2B webinar series aimed to educate travel agents.
- Decreased bounce rate by 26% and increased session duration (and average time on page) by 25%, by rewriting a professional services website with voice-of-customer data and an SEO strategy.
- Generated 22% more leads for a B2B leadership consultancy with a new series of case studies.”

Kaleigh Moore, Content Writer for eCommerce Platforms & SaaS

Not to mention, her articles rank and increase traffic like crazy.
She has “created 75+ #1 Google search ranking articles for client-designated keyword phrases and helped increase organic blog traffic by 1800%+.”

4. Conversion Copywriters
Conversion copywriters are sales copywriters who use data to increase conversions.
We focus on the loci of conversions: ads, landing pages, sales pages and sales emails.
By definition, conversion copywriting is measurable. Our KPIs cover:
- Lead gen (opt-ins, trials, contact form submissions or clicks-to-call)
- Revenue growth (total sales, average order value, revenue per user or visitor)
- And sometimes, what Copyhackers calls “micro-conversions” (i.e. critical clicks)
It’s what we do at Conversion Copy Co.
So, why would we profile others?
Here’s the thing:
Experienced conversion copywriters are scarce and often run waitlists.
(As of today, if you search LinkedIn for “conversion copywriter” you’ll get 569 results globally. Search “SEO copywriter” and that number is 7,400. “Content writer”? 301,000 results.)
Compounding the scarcity, conversion copy projects are bespoke and often take 100+ hours.
The challenge is connecting the right clients to the right conversion copywriters who have the capacity.
In some cases, you need a conversion copywriter who specializes in your niche. Or in a sub-discipline of copy, like ads or emails.
In other cases, you need a full-funnel copywriter.
Or you want a conversion-optimized brand messaging guide so you can outsource to as many copywriters as needed without sounding (or feeling) scattered.
Conversion Copy Co specializes in that kind of messaging + full-funnel copy for B2C e-commerce marketers, especially DTCs. So, we often have to refer out.
Next question:
Why do so many of the conversion copywriters here also list content marketing?
The skills overlap. You need to deeply understand the audience to write copy or content that increases revenue. And based on that insight, you need a theory of what messages will compel the audience to take the next action.
Check out these specialists.

Give your funnel a shot of Fireball whisky. As an ex-journalist, I intertwine investigative research techniques with the art of storytelling to craft high-converting launch copy that sells without icky bro marketing tactics.
Powered by an AC/DC soundtrack and Italian ground coffee, I strategise, map out, and then write your entire funnel to make sure it’s scooping up any lost wranglers who might be on the fence.
I work with six and seven-figure female entrepreneurs who want to create a business that doesn’t depend on them.”

“FastCopy is the new on-demand copywriting service by conversion copywriter Lisa Pierson.
After years of running her biz, The Conversion Copywriter, and working as a senior conversion copywriter at Copyhackers Agency, she’s started FastCopy to help businesses get good (or better) copy quickly.

5. Email Strategists & Copywriters
Q: What if your conversions from ads and pages are high, but your emails, not so much?
A: You might need an email specialist on your conversion marketing team.
To get email right, you need to:
- Understand automation, segmentation, conditional content, and more
- Translate between different email software platforms (all of which, maddeningly, use their own terms)
- Know the different types of sequences (welcome, nurture/pre-sell, sales/launch, retention, win-back)
- Map the messages across multiple emails, delivered over time and triggered by specific behaviors
- Trouble-shoot and advise on email UX, list hygiene, deliverability and compliance with anti-spam legislation (all of it!)
- Interpret email metrics to figure out what’s working and what’s not
- Oh yeah — and then write email copy that converts
I do a lot of this with my clients’ teams. But these are the email specialists I go to when I have questions.
InkHouse, Email Conversion Strategy and Copywriting
Eman Ismail is a conversion copywriter to call when you want to make money from your emails.
“As an email conversion strategist and copywriter (and the founder of inkhouse.org.uk), I help 6+ figure online business owners and e-commerce brands fire up their conversions, evergreen their sales and turn fans into Superfans.
My secret sauce for writing revenue-boosting, relationship-building emails is that all my emails are…
1. Research-driven
By using proven research methods like customer interviews, surveys, and review mining, I formulate messages that convince your audience to say yes.
2. Strategic
I create a winning email strategy that’s tailored specifically to your business and subscribers so you see your conversions rise.
3. Personality-packed
My emails capture your voice and sound just like you (but better!). With story-led, personality-packed emails, you’ll nurture your audience, build trust and strengthen connections. So the next time you sell, your audience won’t hesitate to press the buy button.
I LOVE working on welcome and onboarding sequences. With open rates that have hit 82% and 79%, I’d say they’re my specialty.
I’ve trained under Jo Wiebe at Copyhackers and Samar Owais, and I’ve actually written emails for both of them.”

Laura Lopuch, Cold Email Strategy & Conversion Copywriting for SaaS & More
Laura specializes in a very specific type of email: cold email. Lead gen email.
Cold emails need a leader like Laura. Because most are either hitting spam or desperately irrelevant (driving otherwise tolerant contacts to cancel the connection on LinkedIn).
Cold email conversions are more about strategy than technology. And few people have a strategy like Laura’s:
“I help service professionals, SaaS companies, and entrepreneurs send high-converting emails, so you sell more… naturally. Specifically to cold audiences.
I wrote a viral article on cold emails for Copyhackers and have been featured on highly ranked industry blogs and podcasts, like CrazyEgg, Kissmetrics, Predictable Revenue, and Unbounce. I’ve also spoken at conferences like MicroConf and Shine Bootcamp.
Five months after launching my business, I grew it by 1400%, using only cold emails. One of my cold emails brought in a $20,000 client.
Using The Relevancy Method, I’ve helped my students get their next big $10k or $25k client with cold pitch emails and get my clients an uplift of 33% in reply rate on their cold sales emails.
Personal Passions: I’m an avid reader, dog lover, and previously worked at a law firm.”

Duett, Email Welcome & Nurture Sequences
Welcome and nurture sequences are the backbone of email marketing that converts.
Once you have those sequences in place, you can layer on sales sequences to warm, engaged, ready-to-convert subscribers.
But many businesses have a ton of opt-ins, with no clear strategy on how to segment and onboard those different leads. That’s where Allea comes in.
“Allea Grummert of Duett is an email marketing strategist and conversion copywriter.
She helps online business owners — especially bloggers — make a killer first impression through welcome & nurture sequences that engage readers, build brand loyalty and optimize conversions for sales and site traffic.
Allea has trained in email marketing with Val Geisler and has been featured on The Copywriter Club podcast.”
Fun fact: She also collaborated with me on this review of ConvertKit.

She does this by analyzing your customer data, designing a conversion-focused email strategy, and writing email copy that speaks to your subscribers and free trial-ers but converts for you.”
Results Samar has achieved (aside from becoming one of the go-to email copy experts):
- “$60k+ from an ecommerce email campaign
- Brought down the number of users using the old version of software from 68k to 28k with an email campaign”

6. Conversion-Focused Designers
The difference between a conversion-focused designer and a designer? It’s what separates a copywriter from a conversion copywriter: goals and process.
I asked my friend, Katya, (featured below) to explain what it means to be a conversion designer. Here’s Katya:
“Outside of the conversion marketing world, no one differentiates. They see designers as designers. But even a beautifully-designed page may not convert.
Conversion designers typically combine three skills: visual design, user experience design and conversion rate optimization.
We consider how the design directs the eye to the right messages and actions; whether it tells the right story based on the user’s psychology.
As a conversion designer, I need to understand the why of the design, based on user research. That why is the research-based conversion hypothesis:
Basically, what does the user need to see and read on the page?
The copy and the design are so closely connected, the designer needs to be involved from the beginning in developing the hypothesis and executing it on the page.
And this may be unique to conversion designers, too: after the design, our work isn’t done. It’s a process of ongoing optimization. We’re learning from user feedback, coming up with new hypotheses and testing.”
When I asked Katya what study or credentials make a conversion designer, she explained that the discipline is so new, even a few years ago, it was impossible to find a conversion design certification program.
Katya opted for a live CXL intensive to study Conversion Rate Optimization with Peep Laja. “It brought together everything I’d been piecing together in a system.”
Katya Lombrozo, Conversion Designer
I’ve worked with Katya on multiple projects for ~3 years and just before COVID-19 locked down travel, we spent two days at MECLABS campus together optimizing a client’s landing page.
Katya is an incredibly talented CRO Designer and Strategist. Here are just two excerpts from her 21 recommendations on LinkedIn:
“Katya knows how to communicate ideas to audiences. Be it by website, landing page, or creative design, she drives strong conversion rates… Her design skills and strategic thinking are next level. If you want conversions, ask for Katya.” — Alex Craven, PlayStation
“Eager to find a way to create change and improve metrics core to the business, she lives and breathes the CRO design iteration process.
She will study a design need, utilize all qualitative and quantitative data points she can get her hands on, and find the right path forward to crafting the experience a user needs to get them to take action.
Not only does she provide great guidance from the get go, but will stay in the trenches with her team members through volatile test stretches – staying vigilant and creative in the pursuit towards compounding conversion change.” — Cody Juric, Propeller Health
Katya’s core services include:
Landing Pages Design
“My skill is strategizing and designing landing pages that speak to user motivation and address barriers, creating a clear path to conversion goal. I can work from scratch, or optimize your existing pages. I also have been building pages inside the Unbounce platform for the past 6 years.”
Heuristic Analysis (without design)
“I can audit your web sites/landing pages/flows, and propose solutions to increase conversions, including a lo-fi wireframe. You can then work with the designer of your choice, using my blueprint.”
Personal passions: Katya loves projects where she can increase conversions for B2C products and services.
“There are so many interesting psychological triggers and barriers to uncover and factor into design when you’re selling solutions to problems people face in their everyday lives.”

7. Conversion Rate Optimizers (CROs)
What’s the difference between a conversion copywriter and a CRO agency?
Both use data to understand why customers convert and why they don’t. And we both work towards the same conversion goals.
Here’s what’s different:
- Conversion copywriters generally run surveys, interviews and analyze voice-of-customer…
- CROs have advanced testing and analytics skills.
- Conversion copywriters often work with pre-launch businesses. We use data to optimize the ads, pages or emails out of the gate…
- To work with a CRO, you need existing traffic volume to get statistically significant test results fast enough to learn. For example, CXL Agency requires 100,000 unique visits per month.
For testable marketing, a CRO + a conversion copywriter is an ideal team.
Quick note: Not all who analyze are CROs. Circle back to the ads section above to check out the agencies that offer marketing measurement services.

Why You Should Hire Conversion Marketing Specialists
There’s a reason surgeons never say, “For sure, I do hearts. If you need a patch up in the brain, I can do that, too. And I’ve been getting great results with colons.”
They’re regulated.
Conversion marketers are not.
There’s no one to stop us from saying we do all of the things. Only, no one does all of the things well.
In fact, the only effective conversion-focused agencies I know are actually teams of niche specialists.
And efficacy becomes quickly apparent because conversion marketing is inherently measurable. If the opt-ins, sign-ups and sales aren’t there, you know.
(Though whether it’s the traffic, the offer, the copy or the UX? You might not know without a CRO.)
That’s why I’m always excited to see narrowly-focused specialists. I love it when someone says, “No, sorry, we only work inside Klaviyo,” or Google Ads or WordPress or whatever.
I believe those people. I collect their names.
If you’re a conversion marketer and you’d like your profile added to this list click over to the contact page and drop me a line.
